WORKING IN PARTNERSHIP WITH PARENTS

Dear Parents, Carers, Pupils And Friends

FIRST OF ALL I WOULD LIKE TO LET YOU KNOW ABOUT…. an exciting project our Nursery children are involved in.

The Nursery have received 12 eggs from Bill Quay Farm as part of their hatching programme.

This will help the children learn about the life cycle of chickens/hens.

We have been given a hatching date of 23rd March.  Hopefully, we will see some chicks!

The chicks will be kept in school until 31st March when they will be returned to Bill Quay Farm.

The Nursery children will enjoy a day at Bill Quay Farm on that date where they will enjoy seeing the other animals that live on the farm.

Further information regarding the trip will be passed onto parents nearer the date.

SWIMMING GALA

This year’s Gateshead Annual School Swimming Gala takes place on Wednesday, 10th March.

Good luck to everyone taking part.

Parents are welcome to attend the event.  Unfortunately, we are unable to offer transport to and from the event.

NURSERY BOOK DRAW

The winner of this week’s Nursery Book Draw is Bethany Chamberlain.  Well done Bethany! We raised £10.50 this week.  Many thanks for your continued support.

BLAYDON IN BLOOM COMPETITION

All of the children from school have had the opportunity to complete entries for the Blaydon in Bloom Competition.

The competition will be judged on Saturday, 6th March at 4.00pm.

The pictures and writing entries will be on display in Winlaton Community Centre if anyone would like to go along to see the entries.

Good luck to all of the entrants!

I will let you know the names of any winners once we are informed.

DATES FOR YOUR DIARY

Just to let you know that this year’s parents’ evenings will be held on Monday, 15th and Wednesday, 17th March.

Nursery parents’ evening will take place on Monday, 15th March.

You will receive further information regarding parents’ nights by letter next week.

If you have any problem with these dates please speak to your child’s class teacher.

CONSTRUCTION TALK

We had a visit from Sean McNicolls who is working on the new Medical and Leisure facilities on Shibdon Road.  Mr McNicolls talked to the children about the new leisure facilities and medical centre.  The children learned about safety on building sites and what jobs are available in the construction industry.

The children have been invited to take part in a competition to design a poster.  Exhibits will be chosen to be displayed on hoardings next to the site!

YEAR 1 ASSEMBLY

I would like to thank the children from Year 1 for their wonderful assembly on Tuesday morning.

Thank you to all of the parents who came along to watch the assembly and join us afterwards for tea and coffee.

This week’s attendance figures are:

Reception— 92.5%, 1D—90.8%, 2L— 99.1%, 3D— 95.7%, 4C—93.0%, 5W—98.5% and 6C—89.4%      .

The attendance prize was won by Miss Lewin’s class! Our whole school attendance is 94.1%! Many thanks for all of your efforts in improving our attendance.  I am sure I can rely on your continued support in improving our attendance.

As a reward Miss Lewin’s class will receive 10 minutes free time and will have the attendance rosette, cup for a week.

CREATE AND ANIMATE

Mrs Watson and five children went to Dryden PDC yesterday to take part in a “Create and Animate” project relating to a topic they are working on in school.  They have produced a short film using animation about the Roald Dahl book Matilda.

Both Mrs Watson and the children had a wonderful day.

Their finished version of the short film will be available for you all to see soon on the school website.

BLACK CAR IN BACK LANE OUTSIDE OF SCHOOL

I have been given the registration number of the black car that is driving down the back street outside of the school.

I have passed the registration number onto the Community Police who will be looking into the matter as this road is for access only.

IMPROVED ATTENDANCE

As you are aware one of our targets this year is to improve our attendance.  As part of this initiative we invited a group of parents into school this morning to celebrate their child’s improved attendance.

At the beginning of next term we will be holding an assembly for children with 100% attendance.  Parents will also be invited to this assembly.

I would like to congratulate all of the children who received a certificate this morning.

Many thanks to all of the parents who have tried so hard to improve our school attendance.

AND FINALLY…..

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!
